Film of the Week

I am a bit movie-obsessed and tend to watch at least four movies a week. It's great to just flop down on the couch after a big day at work and be transported back to the time of fabulous costumes, amazing song-and-dance numbers and sometimes questionable beliefs.

I say that last part because I just watched The Thrill of it All with Doris Day and James Garner and well, it has not aged well. But enough about that, let's get onto my favourite movie that I watched this week.

You'll Never Get Rich (1941)
This is a movie starring Rita Hayworth and Fred Astaire. It's a cute, zany musical comedy about a dance choreographer/producer (Fred Astaire's character Robert) who gets caught up in a scheme involving his boss and a girl in the show (Rita's character Sheila). Throw in some 1940's American patriotism that seems to edge its way into every film from this era and you've got a great movie.

I was able to buy this movie on iTunes, which is great because in Australia it is becoming very difficult to watch old movies now that TCM is gone (*tears).

Fashion Bit
In one of the dance sequences Rita wears this amazing black gown with what looks like pom-poms attached to the tulle. I don't know if they are pom-poms, but definitely would wear!

Food Bit
Unfortunately, I didn't notice any food taking centre stage in this film, which makes sense because they were on an army base for most of the time.

What to Watch Next
I'm planning on watching another movie that Fred and Rita were paired up in together
 - You Were Never Lovelier

See you soon!
