Hello!
Over the past few weeks I have been having fun buying and trying new beauty and hair products. Most of these are hair-related as I'm always on the lookout for new ways to curl my hair. Here are the items I purchased and my thoughts on each of them...
I bought this Sculpture Pin Curl Tool from That Shop at Robina but I believe you can also buy them online at Atomic Cherry. This is created by Lauren Rennells, the author of Vintage Hairstyling and Retro Makeup. You use the little blue tool to help wrap your hair for pin curls. Inside the box there was also an instruction booklet with different styles, rolling and brush-out techniques and a gorgeous poster of different vintage hairstyles.
It is such an interesting tool and quite easy to use. I used it on a wet set and found that the pin curls were a lot smaller than when I roll them just using my hands. The only down-side to this tool is that when they dried and I did the brush-out, the hair was very frizzy at the ends. But I'm sure this could be remedied with practice. Here is a picture of me using the tool!
This was another purchase from Mecca Maxima at Pacific Fair. I think that the Soap and Glory packaging is really cute! I have purchased this body scrub before awhile ago and thought that I would try it again. It smells nice and it exfoliates without being to rough on the skin. I love to use this on my arms especially.
I posted this brush on my Instagram a few weeks ago after I bought it at the Mermaid Salon in Paddington. This brush was also on my Birthday Wishlist/Pinup Gift Guide too. I have been using this brush to put on my foundation even though it is more for a contour. But it does a great job! It is so cute and I love anything that is mermaid themed.

Sculpture Pin-Curl Tool
I bought this Sculpture Pin Curl Tool from That Shop at Robina but I believe you can also buy them online at Atomic Cherry. This is created by Lauren Rennells, the author of Vintage Hairstyling and Retro Makeup. You use the little blue tool to help wrap your hair for pin curls. Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask
This Origins mask is from Mecca Maxima at Pacific Fair. I bought the smaller one because I hadn't tried this brand before. The mask is very soothing and does seem to have some effect on pores. But it does take a long time to dry and then the skin feels very dry afterwards.
Soap and Glory Flake Away Body Scrub
Mermaid Salon Ocean Lotion Setting Spray
I love products from Mermaid Salon and recently got my hair cut at their salon in Paddington. I bought this setting lotion at Wild Kitty at Helensvale Westfield. This setting lotion is pretty good, but it doesn't have as much hold as other lotions I've used in the past. I would say that this setting spray is better for dry sets rather than wet sets.
Mermaid Salon Original Chubby Brush
I posted this brush on my Instagram a few weeks ago after I bought it at the Mermaid Salon in Paddington. This brush was also on my Birthday Wishlist/Pinup Gift Guide too. I have been using this brush to put on my foundation even though it is more for a contour. But it does a great job! It is so cute and I love anything that is mermaid themed.
Eve Lom Muslin Cleansing Cloth
I bought these cleansing cloths from Mecca Maxima at Pacific Fair. These cloths are to use with my Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse. The pack comes with three cloths and I use 1-2 a week and then just put them in the wash. They are great!
Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse
This is another purchase from Mecca Maxima. I bought this because I needed a new product to remove my makeup. This stuff really does the trick and the only downside is that my eyes can be blurry for a little while after using it.
Rockin' Rollers
I bought these rollers from That Shop at Robina but you can also get these online at Atomic Cherry. These were quite tricky to use and the final curl was not as nice as when I do pin curls. But once again, this may be due to lack of practice with these types of the rollers. Another thing I noticed that it takes a long time for the hair to dry around these foam rollers. I think that these would be amazing for me if I had longer hair.
Roll and Go Hair Tool
I bought the Roll and Go Hair Tool online at Atomic Cherry. I normally do victory rolls with my hands and have really struggled to use this tool! I'm going to keep trying though and hopefully I can do some of the beautiful styles that are in the booklet.
So that's it for my new hair and beauty products! I wish that I had taken more photos of me using the products, but I can do that next time! Please recommend any other beauty/hair/makeup products as I'm always on the lookout for new things to try.
See you soon!
Miss Rebecca Rockford
