Birthday Wishlist/Pinup Gift Guide!

Today's blog post is a little self-indulgent as it is a wishlist of things that I would love for my birthday, which is next weekend!

But I thought that it would also be a good guide for people who have friends/family that love all things pinup/retro. I've tried to find a range of fashion, beauty and entertainment gifts!

1. Dita von Teese Erotique Gift Set

I already have Dita's other perfume, Rouge and I was really excited to see that this perfume was available again on her website. I love that it also comes with a shower gel! Dita's perfumes are lovely and smell amazing. In her book 'Your Beauty Mark' she talks about her love of perfume and how much work she puts into creating these scents, so you can tell that this product is created with love!

This gift would be perfect for a closer friend or girlfriend.

2. Audrey: the 50s

This book is written by David Wills and displays beautiful pictures of Audrey and her films during the 1950s. I love Audrey Hepburn and already have lots of books about her, but this one is interesting to me because their hasn't been much of a focus of her life during the 1950s in a book before.

This gift would be great for any Audrey fan or a fan of classic movies.

Mermaid Salon is a wonderful new find of mine and I was very excited that they are based in Paddington, Brisbane which is only a suburb away from me! I have used the Mermaid Salon's Ocean Lotion before and it is great. This 'The Original Chubby Mermaid Brush' is so cute and definitely ticks all my mermaid needs!

This gift would be great for any makeup and mermaid lovers.

I found this gorgeous dress at That Shop at Robina last week and sadly, there were none left in my size. I'm definitely going to source this out at their Woolloongabba and Coolangatta stores the next time I'm there! This is a Collectif dress and the straps can go across or straight back which is great.

A great gift for any pinup girl!

I saw this tour on a billboard last week in Brisbane and was immediately intrigued. I love Elvis and this seems like such a cool/quirky concert idea. I was also extremely surprised how fast the tickets are already selling out for the Brisbane Entertainment Centre show!!

A great gift for music lovers and dedicated Elvis fans!

These shoes from Atomic Cherry are so cute and lady-like. It is definitely a tough choice to make as they also have these shoes in pink and red! This would be the perfect addition to any girl's closet.

A great gift for any pinup girl/shoe lover!

Price range - $$$

There has been one thing missing from my closet for the past couple of months and that is a waist cincher! These ones from What Katie Did have always been recommended to me and they look beautiful! What Katie Did also have some amazing seamed stockings too.

This would be great gift for someone close to you, as long as they don't get the wrong idea about you buying them a corset...

8. Magazine Subscriptions

There are two vintage/retro lifestyle magazines that I love - Vintage Life and Glory Days. In Brisbane, the Vintage Life magazines that I buy from the news agency are always at least two months behind, so a subscription to this magazine would be great!

As for Glory Days, you can only get it in a subscription and it is definitely worthwhile. I love that is a New Zealand based magazine.

A great gift for lovers of all things vintage.

Price range - $$

That's it for my wishlist, I hope you enjoyed this gift guide!

See you soon!

New Beauty Products

Hello! Over the past few weeks I have been having fun buying and trying new beauty and hair products. Most of these are hair-related as I'm always on the lookout for new ways to curl my hair. Here are the items I purchased and my thoughts on each of them... Sculpture Pin-Curl Tool I bought this Sculpture Pin Curl Tool from That Shop at Robina but I believe you can also buy them online at Atomic Cherry. This is created by Lauren Rennells, the author of Vintage Hairstyling and Retro Makeup. You use the little blue tool to help wrap your hair for pin curls. Inside the box there was also an instruction booklet with different styles, rolling and brush-out techniques and a gorgeous poster of different vintage hairstyles. It is such an interesting tool and quite easy to use. I used it on a wet set and found that the pin curls were a lot smaller than when I roll them just using my hands. The only down-side to this tool is that when they dried and I did the brush-out, the hai

Film of the Week

This week's choice is not a classic movie, but another one of my favourite films about life in the 1940s and 50s. A League of Their Own is my choice for this week and has everything you could want; Madonna, Tom Hanks and the fabulous aesthetic and interesting culture that was 1940's America. A League of Their Own (1992) This movie is about the American Women's Baseball League that was created during WW2 due to the shortage of male ball-players that were called to fight in the war. I'm not normally a fan a sports movies, but I really like how this films captures the culture of the 1940's during wartime. The story follows two sisters (played by Geena Davis and Lori Petty) who join the league and are on the same baseball team - The Rockford Peaches (my namesake!).  While the film mainly focuses on the rise of the baseball league, there are some other aspects of the story that are shown such as the relationships between the girls and their coach (played b
